On July 27, ABOVE AND BEYOND premiered at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, the largest and oldest Jewish film festival in the world. We had a packed crowd at the historic Castro Theater! In addition to a Q&A after with producer Nancy Spielberg, director Roberta Grossman, writer Sophie Sartain and editor Chris Callister, we were honored to have several children of the film's pilots in attendance.

"Bravo! We smiled. Laughed. Cried. And for 90 minutes felt inspired and uplifted. I can't wait till my kids and friends see it." - Zev B

"It is truly a testimonial to heroism and altruism. And the footage was amazing. I am in awe of what must have gone into assembling it and creating the story these men had to tell" - Sheila S.

"Absolutely spectacular. There was not a dry eye in the audience. Kudos to Nancy Spielberg and Roberta Grossman for sharing this incredible story of the Jewish American pilots who came to Israel's aid during the War of Independence. It's poignant, funny, educational -- and, yes, eerily relevant." - Judy M.

    Dear Friends,

It has long been my dream to make a film honoring the World War II vets who fought for Israel in the War of Independence. That dream is almost a reality! We are working around the clock in the editing room to finish ABOVE AND BEYOND. Our composer Lorne Balfe has begun in earnest to score the film, and our friends at Industrial Light & Magic continue to dazzle us with their treatments of our flying sequences.

As we get close to finishing, our thoughts are turning to the film’s release. Stay tuned for news about the film’s premiere. In the meantime, be the first to see our new poster!

    Happy Passover and Happy Easter!

    Dear friends:

The Above and Beyond crew just returned from a successful shoot outside of London. We went to the UK to shoot at the historic Duxford Airbase where there are period runways, hangars and vintage airplanes.

Working with scholars and aerial consultants, we filmed footage of several of the planes that are part of the IAF 1948 story. After scouring the globe for a flying Avia, we came up empty handed. An almost identical cousin is the Bouchon which, as you can see below, we painted with period IAF markings.

Thanks to an incredibly generous in-kind donation of services from George Lucas' special effects company, Industrial Light and Magic, we will be combining our live footage with computer generated imagery of flying planes. Working with the top film special effects company in the world (responsible for Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark and hundreds of other top Hollywood films) is very exciting. We hope that visual effects will help expose audiences of all ages to this story of the birth of the State of Israel.

We have started editing and are on track for our goal completion date of Summer 2014. Fundraising for the film continues successfully. If you'd like to make a tax-deductible donation to the film, please click here.

I am so very grateful for your support and partnership in the making of Above and Beyond.

    Best Regards,
    Nancy Spielberg

Playmount is the literal translation from German to English of "spiel" and "berg." Playmount Productions has been in the Spielberg family for more than 50 years. Started by Arnold Spielberg in 1962, it was first used by his son, Steven, for early productions filmed in his youth.

Now in possession of the youngest Spielberg, Nancy, Playmount has turned its focus to her projects including ABOVE AND BEYOND.

Playmount is also working on future Spielberg productions including a feature film version of ABOVE AND BEYOND.
